 Title: Ecologist

Location: Wauchope, NSW

About the Role

You would prepare statutory ecological assessments and plans of management under Parts 4 and 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.  Other aspects of the role include working with local and state government agencies in providing specialist ecological advice.

Field work includes ecological surveys, habitat assessments, vegetation community surveys, vegetation mapping and Biodiversity Stewardship Site assessment under the BAM.

You will also work collaboratively and support our multi-disciplined team at our Sydney and Wauchope offices including, earth scientists, environmental engineers, planners, auditors and consultants on a diverse range of medium to large scale infrastructure projects located in NSW and potentially Queensland.

We also work on community and local government driven projects including walking and mountain biking paths in southern NSW and elsewhere.

This is a new role that has been created due to expansion of business opportunities.

 We are seeking a person with the following skills and qualifications;

  • A relevant tertiary degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, or equivalent. 
  • Minimum 3 years practical experience in conducting flora and fauna assessments
  • Working knowledge and experience in the application of relevant NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • A desire to engage with stakeholders including developers, state government, council and members of the public
  • A current New South Wales Driver’s License
  • High level computing skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and GIS
  • Current BAM accreditation would be highly regarded, or willingness and capability to become accredited in the short term
  • Experience in vegetation typing and mapping under the NSW standard would be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability
  • Experience working in the local Mid North Coast area is preferred.
