Title: Environmental Sustainability Advisor

Location: Biloela, Queensland

Salary etc: $77,000 - $80,000 p.a. Permanent, Full-time.

Working in a small team, you will assist to determine the strategic direction of Council’s Environmental Management System whilst monitoring compliance with legislation and local laws.

The Location

Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.

Our population is approximately 15,000 people spread over 28,577 square kilometres. Major industries in the area include Coal Mining, Power Generation, Beef Production, dryland cropping and irrigation such as lucerne and cotton.

Our urban centres and towns include Moura, Taroom, Banana, Baralaba, Dululu, Goovigen, Jambin, Thangool, Theodore, Wowan and Cracow.

Key Accountability and Responsibilities will include:

·         Advise on environmental management and sustainability to Council and employees

·         Implement and review environment and risk management systems and methods to ensure completion of works to current and relevant standards

·         Review and implement Councils Infrastructure Services project management strategies

·         Participate in Councils internal quality audit processes including undertaking internal/external audits on the Environmental Management System and Quality Assurance System

·         Assess the ecological sustainability aspects of development applications in accordance with the Planning Act and appropriate environmental legislation

About the Person

To be successful in this position, you will have demonstrated experience in the practical application of relevant Legislation including the Environmental Protection Act 1994Planning Act 2016 and relevant Regulations.

You will have the ability analyse legal documents, research new initiatives and make recommendations on required outcomes, along with a high level of written and oral communication skills.

Eligibility requirements

·         Qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or related field

·         Relevant Environmental Science / Management / Policy experience

·         High level professional office skills

·         Queensland C class drivers’ licence
