Job Description (Project Scientist):
NCMRWF
is looking for eligible candidates to fill up Project Scientist – II & III
posts under its two projects (i) Numerical Modelling of Weather and Climate
(NMWC) and (ii) BCWC to carry out research and development work on data
assimilation and processing, remote sensing data application and utilization,
numerical modeling of atmosphere, land, and ocean, coupled modeling, ensemble
prediction system, diagnostic and validation of model, development of
model-based applications. The posts are purely on
contractual basis, extendable maximum up to March 2026, on year-to-year basis,
based on satisfactory performance of candidate, at the end of each financial
year. All positions are for Indian nationals only.

Essential Qualifications:
(i) Master’s degree in Meteorology / Oceanography / Atmospheric Science /
Climate Science /
Physics / Geophysics with specialization in Meteorology / Mathematics / Applied
Mathematics / Statistics / Earth System Science and Technology or related
discipline from
a recognized university.
OR
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering / Technology in Civil / Mechanical / Computer
Science
or related discipline from a recognized university.
AND
(ii) at least 60% marks in Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
/ Technology
AND
(iii) Physics or Mathematics as a subject in Bachelor’s degree
AND
(iv)
Seven (07) years research experience in the field of Atmospheric Science /
Meteorology / Oceanography / Remote Sensing / GIS with familiarity in Data
Assimilation / Atmospheric or Oceanic Model / AI, ML techniques in weather
& climate science.
Desirable Qualifications:
(i) Ph. D. in any of the above-mentioned subjects.
(ii) Research experiences in numerical modelling of the atmosphere and ocean,
data assimilation, climate modelling, statistical analysis of weather and
climate data supported by publications in scientific journals and reports.
(iii) Good working knowledge in high-level programming languages viz. FORTRAN /
C / Python etc. and work experiences of UNIX / LINUX in High Performance
Computing Systems (HPCS).
(iv) Ability to design and conduct numerical experiments in HPCS.
(v) Good knowledge and working experiences of data analysis tools viz, GrADS /
IDL / MATLAB / Ferret / R / JAVA / leaflet / CDO / NCO / CDAT etc.
(vi) Ability to conduct and supervise training program on atmospheric/oceanic
sciences.
Job Responsibilities:
(i) Research & Development on Meteorological data processing and quality
control
techniques, Data Assimilation, Numerical modelling of atmosphere, ocean and
land,
Diagnostic tools, Ensemble prediction techniques, Remote Sensing Applications.
(ii) Development of new and novel application using model outputs.
(iii) Organization of trainings on earth system modelling.
(iv) Porting and optimization of numerical models in high performance computing
environment.
Emoluments per month: Rs.
78000/- + HRA, increment of 5% for every 2 years of experience
subject to performance review.

General conditions:-
(i) The likely date of the starting of the projects will depend on the approval
by the competent authorities and availability of fund. The number of posts to
be filled may vary. NCMRWF reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without
assigning any reason.
(ii) The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and the mere
possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview.
If the number of applications received in response to the Advertisement is
large, NCMRWF may restrict the number of candidates
to be called for interview to a reasonable limit, through a screening process.
(iii)
Experience will be counted after completion of essential academic
qualifications. A completed Ph.D. degree will be counted as three years of
experience. In case a candidate has obtained the Ph.D. degree while in service,
only her/his service period will be counted towards experience, and she/he will
not get any additional weightage in experience for acquiring Ph. D. towards
total period of experiences.
(iv) Upper age limit is relaxable for SC, ST,
OBC, EWS, PH and Ex-Serviceman as per GOI rule.
(v)
Candidates working in Government/Public Sector Undertakings/Autonomous bodies
must produce a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their employer.
(vi)

No TA/DA will be paid to the candidates for attending the interview.

scientific posts are in grade above the lowest grade in Group A of the service
