Project
Brief:
CHAIR India Project– This
project aims to develop a nation-wide air pollution exposure assessment model
for predicting ambient PM2.5 levels and temperature modelling. This predicted
exposure levels will be related to the multiple health outcomes across
different age groups utilizing the health data from the various pregnancy,
birth, adults and ageing cohorts across rural and urban India. This will be
achieved by a consortium of researchers interested in air pollution
epidemiology including exposure scientists and public health researchers with
expertise in cardio metabolic and respiratory epidemiology, maternal &
child health and cognitive development. The specific research questions are listed
below: 1. To develop a nation-wide exposure model for daily ambient PM2.5 and
ambient temperature from 2008-2020 at a spatial resolution of 1 km x 1 km and
locally at 200 m x 200 m in India. 2. Link our national estimates of PM2.5 and
temperature to health data to quantify the associations between PM2.5 and
ambient temperature, independently and jointly on the following major public
health endpoints: a. Total mortality, b. Cardiometabolic outcomes and c. Lung
function outcomes. 3. Create a public website with environmental data on a 1 x
1 km grid that can be used by planners, policy-makers, and the general public
to increase awareness and aid decision-making. This large multi-disciplinary
research programme includes components on primary data collection, secondary
data analyses and modelling. The project will provide an excellent opportunity
to collaborate with leading researchers in India, Sweden, Israel and USA for
building an independent and exciting career in this intersecting area of public
health research.
